A FOURTEEN-WEEK project to refurbish reed beds at a Borders wastewater treatment works is set to start on Monday.

The reed beds are found at the end of Leeburn View, Cardrona, adjacent to the golf course and pump track.

Scottish Water said they are an "effective and sustainable" way of treating waste water.

The works will take place between Monday to Friday, with some Saturday work, if necessary.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "The works are scheduled to commence on Monday, February 5, and will be carried out by Scottish Water’s contractor, Morrison Water Services. Works will take place between Monday and Friday, with some Saturday work if required.

"The majority of the works will be contained within the Scottish Water site, but residents should be aware of an increase in site and heavy goods vehicles accessing the area via Cardrona Way and Leeburn View. The majority of vehicle movements will take place during the first week and final two weeks of works. To ensure safety and minimise disruption vehicles will be controlled by a site banksman.

"Scottish Water thanks customers for their patience and understanding during this work. The refurbishment will ensure that the reed beds can continue to operate effectively and provide a high-quality service to the community."
