THE list of finalists in the running to pick up an NHS Borders award has been revealed after a record-breaking number of nominations.

The health board said the amount of people put forward for a prize at the Celebrating Excellence Awards reflected the “commitment to providing excellent services this year”.

NHS Borders’ chair, Karen Hamilton, will also present ‘The Chair’s Award’ at the event which will be held at Springwood Park, Kelso, on Friday, April 19.

She said: “We were delighted to receive a record-breaking number of nominations in our Celebrating Excellence Awards this year, as it is a true testament to just how many of our staff go the extra mile to excel in the jobs they do every day.

“I am really looking forward to taking the opportunity to value the hard work, commitment and dedication of all the staff and volunteers across our organisation.”

The awards are based on NHS Scotland’s values of dignity and respect; quality and teamwork; openness, honesty and responsibility; and care and compassion.

Up for the Service Improvement and Innovation Award are East Brig Ward; the Hospital at Home team; and the Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service.

In the mix for the Working Together Award are the Community Rehabilitation Service; Frederick Tanner/audiology department; and multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working across numerous services.

The Inspiration Award will be going to one of Lynda Taylor , Macmillan nurse consultant and lead clinician in cancer; Lynsey Russell, senior charge nurse, Intensive Therapy Unit; or Yvonne Archibald, manager at Coldstream Medical Practice.

Nominated for the Person-centred Care Award are the chronic pain team; Darren Kerr, staff nurse, Ward 6; and intensive therapy nurses.

The Hidden Hero prize will be going home with one of Chloe Horne, ward secretary at Knoll Hospital in Duns; Dr Hyatt, consultant physician, Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DME); or Susan Cowe, quality improvement facilitator.

Faye Fowler, senior charge nurse at Knoll Hospital in Duns; Gillian Myatt, senior charge nurse at East Brig; and Isla Mair, healthcare support worker with Eildon district nursing team are nominated for the Better Workplace Award.

The Health & Wellbeing Award will be won by one of Hazar Otour, community pharmacist; Jan Moffat, manager of the rehab team; or the wellbeing service’s specialist team for smoking cessation support in pregnancy.

In with a chance of the Top Team Award are the intensive care unit team; the community perinatal mental health team; and Susan Cowe and the patient experience team.
