PEEBLESSHIRE bands are set to give crowds a ‘unique opportunity’ to hear some of the region’s brass ensembles celebrate the great outdoors.

Organised by St Ronan’s Silver Band, Tweed Valley Brass will take to the Innerleithen Memorial Hall stage with special guests Peebles Burgh Silver Band.

The concert celebrating the Tweed Valley will also include a display of artwork and photography featuring the local landscape.

Claire Bell, chair of St Ronan’s Silver Band, said: “Tweed Valley Brass is an exciting new project to bring all of the brass ensembles in Tweeddale together.

“We have worked together with Peebles Band on many occasions over the years, so it is a real pleasure to be sharing the concert stage together and to be involving our young players too.”

St Ronan’s Silver Band will be conducted by Michael Marzella – who has developed the host band’s programme of music – and Vaughan Fleischfresser will lead Peebles Burgh Silver Band in opening the concert with an entertaining set list.

The senior bands will then perform together for an uplifting finale.

Both bands will also be joined by their youth counterparts – Peebles Burgh Youth Band and St Ronan’s Future Band – who will join together as Tweed Valley Youth Brass led by Keith Belleville.

Chair of Peebles Burgh Silver Band Donna Hamilton added: “We are delighted to be involved in this new initiative between our two bands and their respective youth sections.

“It raises the cooperation between us and makes for an interesting future.”

The concert has been supported by Scottish Borders Council’s events fund.

A licensed bar will also be available.

The art exhibition will be open from 6pm on Saturday, May 4 before the Tweed Valley Brass concert beginning at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £8, and £7 for concessions.
