MEMBERS of a bowling club in Largs celebrated the first day of a new season in glorious sunshine last weekend.
New Douglas Park Bowling Club president Glen Mandagie was welcomed by past president Elizabeth Kennedy and new members were then welcomed with a warm handshake from Glen.
The park was looking resplendent and was busy with people enjoying the sunshine and the bowling.
Michael McGowan said: "Thank you especially to all the new members this year. It's great to have you with us.
"Bowling is an excellent sport for all the family to play. The oldest against the youngest is still a level playing field.
"Age is irrelevant; it is skill that wins the game. It's like chess on a lawn.
"Tuition for everyone will start very soon."
This year's opening day was a particularly happy occasion for all at the club as it came just a few weeks after Douglas Park issued an urgent appeal for new members through the pages of the News.
Happily, lots of locals responded to the plea and the club is now very much on the up, though new members are always welcome to join.
