A NEWBORN baby boy tragically died shortly after being admitted to hospital, an inquest has heard.

Six-day-old Brodie-Jax Larry Perryman was taken to Warrington Hospital on August 31, last year, after 'becoming unwell' at home on Maple Avenue in Runcorn.

Victoria Davies, area coroner, opened an inquest into his death at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington on Wednesday.

Brodie-Jax 'became unwell' at home and died shortly after his admission to hospital, the hearing was told.

The baby was identified by his dad, Ryan Perryman.

The reason for an inquest is because of ‘care concerns’, the court heard.

A post mortem examination was carried out at Alder Hey Children’s Foundation Trust mortuary on September 1, last year.

The coroner adjourned the case until October 10 for further work to be completed.

An internal review will be held on June 23.

Ali Kennah, chief nurse at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were extremely saddened by Brodie’s death shortly after arrival at Warrington Hospital and we continue to offer our deepest condolences to his family for their devastating loss.

“We will assist the coroner in their investigations in any way we can and we remain available to support Brodie’s family as needed."
