The 26-year-old from West Linton was part of the Edinburgh AC 4x200 metres relay team which claimed the Scottish Indoor title in Glasgow.
And, with a split time of 24.11, she hasn’t given up hope of clinching a late Commonwealth Games place.
Stacey told us: “I’m looking to train in America during April as competition opportunities in Florida in the warmer climate would help me get closer to the time I need.
“The Commonwealth Games standard is 23.55 and I think I can get it. My trip to race in Florida will depend on funding - apart from a Tweeddale Sports Council travel grant I am self funded. Any sponsorship towards this dream would be gratefully received.” Stacey was joined by Katie Brown, Louise Dickson and Bethanie Finlayson in the successful Edinburgh AC team.
Having completed her PGDE in Physical Education, Stacey has taken time out to concentrate on her athletics and earn a Games selection.
And going by her indoor time on Sunday, it may be a gamble that pays off.
Stacey added: “I am training hard and still aiming for a 200 metres individual place or 400 metres relay place.” Anyone who can help with sponsorship should contact Stacey on stacey_downie@ymail.com.
