Chic McAleavy, Micky Weir and Fraser Ogilvie have kept the Victoria Park side in the top three or four places of the Lowland League all season.

But behind the scenes wrangles between the team and the committee have led to doubt over any contract extensions.

Diamond told us: “We need to show Chic and the boys that we can match their ambitions.

“They want a well run club that can continue challenging for the Lowland League and even go to the next level.

“We’ve not always shown them that same level of ambition this season but we all want them to stay.” Despite the new league and Vale’s success, which currently sees them challenging for second place, numbers through the gates have dropped.

And last week’s fundraising Sportsman’s Dinner was cancelled due to a lack of support.

Diamond added: “There has been a lack of support this season and it is up to us to do something about that.” Amongst the latest blows for the Victoria Park side is the sudden departure of midfield general Scott McCulloch to Penicuik just over a fortnight ago.

Coach Ogilvie wouldn’t be drawn on the coaching team’s future. He said: “Considering where we are in the league you would consider that we would be getting a lot more support.

“The problems this season have been away from the park which is disappointing.

“I don’t think anybody has looked much further ahead than the next game so there are no plans for next season.”
