THERE was double joy for Peebles Netball last week.

The hard work of the winter training sessions for Peebles Netball junior players was reflected with two convincing wins in national competitions.

For their first game in the knock-out stages of the Scottish Schools’ Gold section championships Peebles S1s ventured from the snowy Borders to Dundee for a mid-week match. With both Peebles and Dundee HS previous winners of their regional sections of the Cup, the youngsters needed their A-game brought to the contest.

And it was certainly Peebles who put on the show from the start with their standard raised to a new level to take on the increased level of competition. Accurate catching and passing was the simple but effective strategy which provided ample opportunities on goal for their raft of talented shooters.

A runaway 35-4 victory takes them into the quarter finals.

Peebles U15s are also going from strength to strength.

Still in the qualifying regional section of the Scottish Youth Cup, Peebles notched up another victory away in the capital this week with an exceptional performance taking West Edinburgh by surprise to win 61-6. A 96 per cent success rate on goal by goal shoot Kirsten Rodwell was outstanding and bodes well for the trials this weekend for her place in the East of Scotland netball squad.

With wins over Edinburgh 2 and West Lothian Wildcats 2 already under their belt, Peebles has only their old nemesis Holyrood NC still to face next week to complete their section.
