LADIES Day took place at West Linton Bowling Club on Sunday with teams from Biggar, Broughton, Carluke, Forth, Innerleithen, Peebles, Penicuik, West End (Edinburgh) and, of course, West Linton.

Gentlemen from the West Linton Club catered all day long, beginning with breakfast and later, a delicious lunch and then afternoon tea.

Unfortunately, it was raining when the competition started.

The teams of triples each had to play five games of five ends. By mid-day the rain had stopped and the ladies could at last strip off the waterproofs.

The semi-finals were between Peebles and West Linton and Biggar against Innerleithen.

There was some very fine bowling from all teams but it was Peebles and Innerleithen who made it through to the final. Again some excellent bowling but the winners were the ladies from Peebles Bowling Club: Janet Brown, Marion Blades and Adelaide Dalling.

President, Charlie Smith, congratulated the winners and thanked all who participated to make it a most enjoyable and successful day.

He also thanked everyone for the generous raffle prizes, he thanked Willie Bruce for organising the competition and, of course, the gentlemen of the bowling club for their hard work throughout the day which was followed by an almighty cheer from all the grateful ladies.
