LAST weekend saw the climax of the age group national championships in Scotland, the Scottish Youth Cup.

The event brings together the top netballers in the country and brings to a conclusion months of matches home and away against the very best in Scotland.

And for the second year in a row Peebles teams reached the finals of two of the three junior finals.

In a packed and noisy arena, ten Peebles U13 girls took to the court to fulfil their dream of becoming Scottish Champions.

And under immense tension and excitement, the Peebles Rockets determinedly fought off the strong attack from their Perth opposition.

The score remained tight throughout the first half, with the lead changing hands and continually threatened.

Into the second half and Peebles started to settle and show class.

A run on goals in the third quarter established a six goal lead going into the final stage, with Peebles pulling away convincingly to achieve their ambition and be crowned Champions of Scotland.

This is the third time in the last four years that Peebles U13s have won the Scottish Championships.

Reigning champions Peebles Pulse had a tough match against Helensburgh’s G84.

Although some individual performances were outstanding the team was unable to produce the fluent play which had emerged in many of the qualifying matches over the season.

Despite the match being even in the first and third quarters, G84 pulled away in the other stages, leaving Peebles Pulse in silver position.

Since is founded in 2006, Peebles Netball's teams have won 11 Scottish Youth Cup titles at Under 13, Under 15 and Under17 age groups, and picked up five silver positions.

The club has had a team in the final every year.

Coach Linda Nicholson told the Peeblesshire News: “I am incredibly proud of how these youngsters conducted themselves amid such high tension.

"They showed themselves to be true competitors, but also sporting in every aspect of their play, respecting their opposition and umpires.

"I am very pleased that the hard work of the year has paid off with both teams achieving something remarkable.”

Both Peebles Rockets and Peebles Pulse are sponsored by Clubsport Tweeddale
