Peebles High 18
Queen Anne High 17
Peebles High welcomed a tough set of visitors in the form of Queen Anne High, Dunfermline in the second round of the Scottish Schools Cup.
An early try and Ross Young penalty settled the black and reds but the big Queen Anne pack was causing many problems.
A deserved try from the men in gold brought the score to 10-5 and the Peebles side needed to find fifth gear.
They duly did with fine handling seeing Jules Carrie going over in the corner.
A fine second half break by Innes Minto should have settled home nerves but he was denied by a brave cover tackle.
Queen Annes hit back with their centre darting over to make it 15-12 with 20 minutes to play.
Captain Robert Mathews played the territory game well which allowed Peebles to again nudge into enemy territory. Young duly converted another penalty to make it 18-12.
Fantastic resilience from the Dunfermline school saw them hit back to 18-17. An onslaught of Gold pressure then ensued with only some amazing tackles keeping Queen Anne out in the last five minutes. One such tackle by Joe Ryalls was the tackle of the season.
Peebles High 1st XV now advance to play Fettes College on Thursday at Carrington Road.
