ON Saturday two Peebles Piranhas P7 teams headed to Galashiels to take part in the annual Lofty Memorial tournament.
There were some hard fought games against Kelso, Gala, Duns, Selkirk and Melrose as well as a Baa Baas team.
Peebles Whites played some fantastic running rugby and reached the bowl final just loosing out to Kelso, while Peebles Reds met Selkirk in the final for the silverware.
Their outstanding defence held out letting in only one try in all five games while scoring some well worked team tries and coming out victorious over Selkirk.
The David Loughton Memorial Cup was presented for the first time in 2006 in memory of David (Lofty) Loughton who died in October 2004, age 39 after a long battle with cancer.
Lofty was a great friend to many in the rugby community throughout the Borders and will always be remembered for his outstanding good nature and as a player who always demonstrated the true meaning of good sportsmanship.
