Penicuik Athletic 5

Peebles Rovers 0

PEEBLES crashed out of the King Cup after suffering their third defeat of the season against Penicuik.

While Allan Macdonald's team competed well, the home side showed the quality that has taken them to the top of Conference A.

A 10th minute strike for Athletic was ruled off due to a hand ball infringement.

But just after the quarter hour Wayne McIntosh escaped the attentions of Gregor Lamb and Ross Forrest to slot a shot beyond Tom Kerr.

Peebles struggled to close down the home team's midfield and it wasn't long until they were two down.

It was McIntosh again who created enough space to find the net from inside the area.

Only a couple of good saves from Kerr prevented Penicuik stretching the advantage further.

But there was little he could do to stop McIntosh steering a deep corner in for his hat-trick just before the interval.

Despite the worsening conditions, Penicuik were still able to pass the ball about well after the interval.

And in the 50th minute an uncharacteristic miss by McIntosh, after round Kerr, let Peebles off the hook.

But he made amends just five minutes later after converting Aaron Sommerville's cross to make it 4-0 - the third time this season the striker has netted four in a game.

Peebles did rally for a spell midway through the half with Brock Robertson and Lee Zavaroni pushing the full backs deeper with good runs.

Despite forcing a couple of corners the visitors couldn't score a consolation.

And it was the hosts who were to have the final say with Kyle Sampson running onto a through ball to score.
