TORWOODLEE juniors swung back into action this week.

On Sunday the Clubgolf Junior coaching programme began with 29 young players taking part.

A total of ten session, which includes learning new skills and the basics of the golf grip, are planned over the coming months for youngsters between five and 16.

Ahead of the opening session with Frank Scott at Ashkirk Driving Range, junior captain Harry Chisholm and vice captain Patrick Beatt were presented with new clothing.

Junior convenor Andy Lawrie told us: "The programme has been running for six seasons now and each year more and more kids take part in the coaching.

"We have been lucky enough to get volunteer coaches giving up their time to support the juniors and help them keep fit and active by playing golf.

"It’s great to see so many kids and parents up at the golf club and enjoying the facilities we have to offer.

"We introduced some professional video analysis coaching with Frank Scott last year and have reinvested in this for 2019 after the progress the juniors made after these sessions."

Also on Sunday 12 players battled it out in cold conditions in a stableford competition.

Oliver Gillie, who is eight years old, was first with a score of 21 points.

He was closely followed by Lewis Gillie and Harry Chisholm both with 19 points.

The next coaching session will take place next Sunday at 4pm.
