FOOTBALL chiefs in Innerleithen have taken a step forward to lighting up Victoria Park.

To meet Scottish Football Association requirements, clubs playing in the pyramid system will need floodlights from next season.

Vale of Leithen, who are currently fighting for survival in the Lowland League, are one of only a handful of clubs still without lights.

And they face being kicked out of the lucrative Scottish Cup and even their league if they don't comply.

Following a public meeting in Innerleithen during November a working group was formed to take forward improvement plans to create a community facility within the ground.

And this week a planning application was submitted for the erection of four floodlight columns.

John Anderson from the Victoria Park working group told us: "We have funding applications ready to be submitted once we get planning permission.

"We will have to wait on the planning department deliberating over our application and then we can progress things further."

The full planning application is for the erection for four columns, 18 metres high, and each containing four lights.
